Hola mi Familia!!
How is the most wonderful family doing!!! I am doing pretty good!
Yes this week has been so hard for me at times I felt like, what am I doing!?! But it is getting better! My companion is really great. I do like her al lot but we are so lost because she and I don’t really know the area that well, so it is so hard. I am trying to be positive so I won’t say anymore about my Spanish and that, but it is hard to be new but then thrown into kind of the senior companion and tell her where to go and when and where the members live which was so tough. Tuesday was especially hard. I truly missed Hermana Vega so so so much!! I was lost without her. She is truly a very special person. And what is hard was that all the members loved her too, so Sunday was just a little different. But my new companion is so patient and kind and we are getting along really well. We work well together so that is really great!!!! This week though as I said was hard especially because some of our recent converts didn’t come to church this Sunday, which is so hard. Really when investigators and recent converts don’t come or follow through with commitments it is so painful! It is probably the worst pain in your heart because you love them and when they dont do what you know they can do, it is so tough. And one of Hermana Vegas recent converts we went and met with him and he told us that he doesn’t know if the church is true anymore which made my heart sink. But we are meeting with him on Thursday to just talk and listen.
This work is tough and Satan works so so so hard with our investigators and also our new converts. But everything will workout ok! Hermana Almengor and I kind of had to start from scratch again because we dont have investigators so we have been contacting and knocking on doors all this week. We found a couple of familias and we are going to meet with them this week! So pray that their hearts will be softened! We had one investigator come to church and she only stayed for the first hour because she said she had to go to A different church which was hard but we are going to keep teaching her and hopefully next week she will stay the whole time!!
Oh the new elders are good but guess what one is super new, this is his first area so literally we are all new to this area! I feel so bad for them but they will do great. They are hard workers. The new elder is a gringo and he is from Vacaville and he knows Caitlin and Dana. Hansen, Lindsey, I don't know his first name but his last name is Hansen!
But my spanish is getting so much better because I have to talk so much more because Hermana Almengor doesn’t know anyone, so it has been good for me and Hermana Almengor pushes me but not to much just enough for me to try and grow so she is really a blessing in my life!! I know that I will grow a lot from her. She is super small but so cute. She is 25 though but she looks 15. She is different than Hermana Vega but I like her a lot so that is good!
Oh so funny story!! So on Monday night when we got home from cambios we were walking to our house and our house is connected to another house and our landlord lives there and so I walk up and guess what they are killing chickens!!! and hanging them up to let them bleed out! I couldn’t believe it! I was like Yes! Yes! I am in a different country where they kill chicken in their front yard! I laughed because the land lady had blood on her hands but she still gave us kisses. LOL!!!
I do love it here! It is a roller coaster of emotions but I know that this is where I am meant to be!! And it will get easier! I just need to get over the greenie hump and I know that I will be just fine and these 14 months will fly by!!
Tomorrow we are going to have intervistas with the President and I am so excited. He is so amazing!! His spirit is so strong and he truly is like Christ. I want to get to know him and become close to him because he is awesome!! And this week we are just going to work so so so hard and find a family that is so ready for this gospel! When we just go out and work I love it! Because I don’t think about anything, just the people and my Savior and I feel so good about myself. Oh and on the 6th we are going as a zone to the volcano near by so I am so excited for that it will be fun! It is so close to us like an hour in bus and 45 mins by car. so it can be my birthday present!!
I have felt my Savior so close this past week because I needed to rely on him so much I don’t think I have ever prayed and cried so much in my life to my Savior! I also have been reading Jesus the Christ and I love him!! He was and is so perfect and when I feel like I can’t do this and I feel lost and lonely I know that He is with me. And like dad said I held onto your hands for these past 21 years, but now I am holding onto the hands of my Savior.
I know he is here with me and he knows all of my fears and all that I have to learn! I love him and I know that he loves the people of Costa Rica and with that knowledge I love the people of Costa Rica too!!
Keep praying for me like I know you are!! I love you all. The church is true! this gospel is perfect! and with Christ we can do all things, like live in another country and learn another language!!
Oh my word I bawled Kiss when I saw the pictures of your three angels, they truly are angels!! I miss my family so much. I never knew I could ache this much for all of you!!! I love you all!!!
Love always and forever Hermana Turnbaugh
p.s oh mom I am so so so sorry I don’t know why it cost 56 dollars that is so expensive. I thought 20 dollars I don't know what should I do!!?? Should I stop using my card? I am so sorry it shouldn’t have been that much!

Familia!!!!
How is the most wonderful familia doing? I am good! Yes cambios were today and yes it was soooooooo hard to say goodbye to Hermana Vega!! She is so awesome and we had so much fun together and when we said goodbye we both cried like little babies!!! She was not only my companion but my really good friend and I will miss her so much!!. I feel so lost without her but my new companion is really nice her name is Hermana Almengor and she is from Panama and she only has 3 months left, so once again, I will be sending another one of my companions home. But she seems really nice. She is so short but so cute! And I was talking to one of the AP´s last night and he said she is a great missionary!
But.... guess what so they transferred all the missionaries out of San Carlos and we are getting all new elders and then my companion so I am pretty much the only one that knows the area and I am so scared! Because my companion doesn’t know the area so it will have to be me showing her around like I am the senior companion but everything is a blessing in disguise for me Right? it says that in my blessing. So I am trying not to feel scared and just know this will help me to grow. It will help my Spanish and help me to be a better missionary! Oh and the elders that are moving into this area, one is brand new and the other is his trainer but doesn’t know the area. But we will all work together and it will be great!!
YES!!!! Antonia did get baptized on Saturday and her and her family was all confirmed on Sunday! It was wonderful. We went over to her house one night to talk to just find out her fears and doubts and we had an impression to just talk to her alone and so we did. We took her in the other room and just asked her questions and she opened up to us. Her fears were that on Sunday there was to many people and she was nervous with all the people because she doesn’t like attention like that. So we told her that if she only wanted her baptism to be only with her family then she can, because it is up to her, and that is what she wanted. So on Saturday she was baptized and it was only us missionaries and the president of the Rama and it was special and she did so great!! Oh something so cute so she wanted to wear her baptismal dress there so she did wear it on the bus the the Capella, I mean church it was so awesome! But I cant even tell you how much this gospel changes people she is a very quite person and usually when I kiss her on her cheek and give her a hug she doesn’t respond back at all but after her baptism I was in the dressing room to help her get out of the baptismal font and she came in and gave me the biggest hug. She was dripping wet but we just stood there holding onto each other! It was very special!! And then we had a mothers day activity because mothers day here is Aug 15th but she was so happy and cheery and lovey dovey with her husband. I know with every fiber of my being that this church is true. That the Atonement is real and that this gospel is a gospel of happiness. If people say other wise they need to come and see what it has done for this family! They are new creatures in Christ and it is as if someone wiped away dust from a dirty window. It is wonderful to see the Lords hand in all things!!
Speaking of the Lords hand in all things I have an amazing story how the Lord knows us and our needs. So Hermana Vega for her final goodbye dinner with the president and his wife tonight wanted to look really nice and a member in the ward made her a dress and she really wanted these black high heels so I bought her some because she doesn’t have money, her family is so so poor but anyways yes I did buy shoes mom, no one has my card, but she also wanted black earrings and we both didn’t have money and we looked for some that were cheap and nothing. So on Saturday night our land lady comes in to say goodbye to her and gives her a small little wooden box and in that box is a gold package and Hermana opens it up and her mouth drops and I looked at her and said “no way black earrings”? and she shakes her head and says yes!! I know the Lord knew she wanted earring and I know that he works through people. I know his hand is in all things. That he know everything, even the smallest detail of black earrings. I love Him and I love this Gospel.
My bite is better, the medication helped so much, it is still a little tender but so so much better! I am doing great and I know that this new change will be good!!! Pray for me OK!! Oh guess what so all the missionaries that are leaving gets to go to the temple so I got to go too and guess what I did it all in Spanish! it was so hard but a cool experience. I was there for so long getting all the wording correct, but I did it!! whoop whoop!!!
Tell Tytan HAPPY BIRTHDAY and that I love him so so much!!!
LOL Dad I laughed so hard when you told me that story of Martine and the sloth and no it was not my boyfriend!! LOL!! And mom no it didn’t remind me of you because it had green fur not red still, those red little marmots in Jerusalem remind me of you!! LOL Oh how is miss you all so much!! I try not to think about how long I have, but I miss you all so much!!!
Thanks for everything! Thanks for that song Mom that is what I needed to hear!!
I love you
Love always and forever Hermana Turnbaugh

Hola Mi Familia!
How is everyone doing!?! By you emails it sounds like everyone is doing so so well!!! Thanks for the pictures of baby Bella! She is beautiful!!! And Casey and Brynnie, oh my word another BOY!!!! Oh how exciting and how blessed you are to have three little missionaries and one little sister missionary that is so awesome!!! Congrats I love you guys!!!!
Well, as for me, yes my week was busy but so good! We worked our little Costa Rican bums off getting our investigators ready for baptism! And on Sunday a family and another boy from a less active member were baptized along with the elders investigators, who was a couple and a girl about 11. So we had 7 people get baptized Sunday!! Crazy huh? It was wonderful!! Well........ it could have been so so wonderful but the mom of our little family had doubts and she didn’t get baptized. So her husband and 2 son were baptized and she wasn’t. It was weird and I am not a hundred percent sure what happened but I guess on Saturday our district leader went with us to do the baptismal interview questions and she went into the room with him and she came out crying and the elder looked at me and shook his head and he said she didn’t want to be baptized. I was like “what? this is the first time she expressed doubt of anything”. So we took her in the other room. Hermana Vega and I and just talked to her she wouldn’t tell us why she said no but Hermana Vega bore strong testimony of baptism and how it can change and bless her life and at the end she was crying and told us yes she did. So Sunday we thought everything was good and she sat through church then when we were preparing for her baptism she said she was sick and she just closed her eyes and was rocking from side to side. She was weak and she couldn’t move and the member went and brought her food and she couldn’t eat it so they were feeding her. It was so sad. I didn’t know what to do. She is so skinny and I think she was nervous and all of it rolled into one I think she couldn’t handle it. So she sat there with her eyes closed and she didn’t even see her husband and kids get baptized. I was discouraged I thought why couldn’t she just be strong. Why does Satan come at the worst moments. But I realized that it is her decision and she needs to be 100 percent ready. And I know she will. But we did take her to the hospital and the doctors said she was anemic or lacking iron so they gave her medicine and so hopefully she will feel better soon and she will want to be baptized because I love that little family and I know they will be so so blessed to all be baptized. But it was a beautiful day and next Sunday they will receive the gift of the holy ghost!!
As for Antonio he is doing so so so GREAT!!!! He is a changed Being. He is so happy and he, guess what, received the Aaronic priesthood and on Sunday he passed the sacrament. He was so excited and he did such a great job. He even went out and bought a white shirt and borrowed a members tie so he could pass the sacrament. I think it really touched him that he was able to pass the sacrament. I was touched. I felt so proud and I felt the love of the Savior so much watching him pass this most sacred ordinance. It was awesome. It is amazing to see how much this gospel changes people. How much the Atonement changes people and creates a new person and a person of God. I love this gospel with all my heart!!! I know it is real and so so so true!! I know the Atonement is everything, Christ is everything!!! I love him! This work is hard and Satan very much wants to stop what we are doing and at times it is hard to know why it has to be so hard, this gospel, but I then remember salvation is not easy and it come with a price. If this work and gospel was easy it wouldn’t be true but because it is so hard I know with all my heart that it is true and that Christ lives. That he died for us that we could live together as families with our Father in Heaven forever!! I know the Atonement is real! I have used this amazing and precious gift while I have been here and it is real but we need to be humble enough and have faith enough to let it work in our lives. And once we use it It is BEAUTIFUL!! The Savior is beautiful!!! I love him and he knows us and he is with us forever and always!!
I am Healthy well........... sort of! I was bit by a spider I think and my ankle is swollen and sooooo sore!! It started to hurt really bad on Saturday and just got worse last night. The pain was so bad that I just laid on my bed and tried to have the pain pass. I didn’t know what to do and the hospitals here are scary and not good at all because the are socialist I think where the doctors get paid the same. Anyways I was scared that it would get worst and I would have to go to the hospital. So this morning early we went to see a pharmacist and they gave me 3 types of pills ,one for the pain, one for swelling and another to fight infection and now it feels better!! Still swollen and tight but not so much pain so I am so happy about that! Walking home last night as I was limping! I told my companion I wanted my mom and she just laughed but she is so good and took care of me! We called the president wife and she told me the medication was good and if it didn’t get better to call her! So I am not scared anymore!!
My companion leaves Monday!! I am so sad and scared because I will get a new companion and she will be new to the area. She will be senior but still the area will be new to her. So I have been really paying attention to the houses of our investigators and where they live and what buses we have to take so that I can help out a little. My companion is excited to leave and sad at the same time. It is hard being with someone that is going home because I think about home so much. So it will be good to get someone that is not leaving!! But I will miss her. We have so much fun together. It is hard sometimes bc of the culture and things like that but she is incredible and a really great missionary! I am going to miss her a lot!!
But to answer a couple questions. Yes I am the only blonde and I stink out like a sore thumb. I get whistles and creepy men saying things to me. So it is an adjustment but its OK. Just the other day a cute little old guy gave me a flower and then kissed me on the cheek! LOL!! I like the food and guess what mom you and Deb would love it here because they have aeropostle here all over! And each time I see it I think of you!!
Dad you are incredible! You little builder you!! You are awesome! I bet the house just looks so amazing you should send me pictures!!
I like it here. Being here though makes me miss Jerusalem a lot, funny huh?
But mom yeah you can just order the scripture case covers for me. But I have problem bc my spanish cases are bigger than my English case so I don't know!! But for the picture on my book of Mormon, I want the tree of life picture, you know the one with the iron rod leading to the tree and people are holding on to it and then on the back I want the I love you with Christ hands. And on my bible I want just the picture of Christ and then the one where he is looking off at Jerusalem. Or wait maybe just the picture of Christ on the Book of Mormon and the Tree of Life on the back then the one where he is looking at Jerusalem and the hands on my bible. That would be so great!!!
I love you all so much!! You are the best family ever! Thanks for all your love and support!! It means everything to me!!! I love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love Hermana Kaylie Tookie Turnbaugh

I knew Baby Bella would be a girl. When I would pray at night I would say a prayer for Crystal and her baby girl weird huh? But I think that this baby and I have a special connection because I knew Crystal was pregnant before she told anyone the day of her birthday I knew. Oh my word!! Crystal and Seth I love you. You are such great Parents!!! Give her loves for me and tell baby Bella that I love her!!!!
So my week was wonderful!!!! YES ANTONIO was baptized on Saturday and it was wonderful! My first baptism. I cried lol!! I am a baby but when he was standing in the water I just felt so much love for him I knew he had truly came unto Christ and that Our Savior took upon him all of Antonio’s and everyone’s sins. I felt so much love and after, Antonio said he felt so perfect and so happy!! He is so great!! I am so blessed that we found him. I know he will do great things.
Then that night we had a ward activity where people would do their talents and Hermana Vega and I with our little lady that cooks for us did a little skit of little red riding hood and I was little red riding hood! it was so funny. Plus Antonio came and the members did such a great job at fellowshipping him. It was a great Saturday!!!! Then Sunday Antonio was given the most amazing gift the gift of the holy ghost. The blessing was beautiful and after he was just smiling from ear to ear. Even though this month has been hard adjusting and learning the language but when he was baptized and confirmed it was all so worth it!! I am so happy for him and Like you said mom anything that is good is hard and this is so so good!!
Yesterday why I didn’t write you is because I had my one month checkup with all the newbie’s that came in the same day as I did. With President Galvez. He was just checking if we were doing alright and if everything is good and going good for us. It was great to see President he is awesome!!! Then after the meeting he took us up the mountain in San Jose and we looked across all of Costa Rica it was awesome!! It put everything in perspective for me. This is not my work but this is Our Heavenly Fathers work and I need to love the people of Costa Rica with all of my heart. While I was standing looking down at Costa Rica I know this is where I need to be even though it is hard. I am so blessed to be here and I have seen so many miracles in my mission already. I know this Church is True and I love it. It truly makes people happy and it can change lives for ever!!!
Spanish is coming along. I can understand so much more and I took Casey’s and Laren’s advice and I just talk no matter what and it has helped. I still do get overwhelmed a little but it doesn’t stay long anymore!! I feel good.
Oh mom and dad I got your package!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! It was wonderful and I also got your dear elders too!! They were exactly what I needed!! I love the inspirational quotes and the feet insole liners they are awesome!!
Oh and guess what Shelley Lucas also sent me a package of goodies it was wonderful! Please tell her thank you for me and that I love her!!
This week is alot of work. The elders and us both have a wedding and baptism this Saturday and Sunday. Our little family we have been working with for a while and they finally got their papers!!! And so Thursday or Friday they are going to get married and baptized on Sunday!!!! This family is so cute and so poor and they are giving up everything to get married and baptized a lot of money but they know the church is true and they want to be baptized. This family is a family of 5 and the mom and dad and two of their sons are going to be baptized. The Lord is so wonderful I know that it is because of Him that they received their papers. It is so incredible to me that this family is making the first step of becoming a forever family. This gospel is so perfect! This family can and will be together for ever!!! So pray for Eugenio and his wife Antonia this week!! They are greatt!! And the member are helping out so much because they are sooo poor and they bought them rice and other food so that they can feed their family. The Lord provides for everything. I have seen that first hand because at the end of the month we hardly had anymore for food or anything but people would give us food. I think I ate more these last two weeks that I have when I first got here. I truly know the Lord loves his missionaries and he provides for them. It is such a blessing! I see the Lords hand in all things.
Also in our area we are getting a senior couple the Durfrees and they are here for a couple of days finding a place to live, they dont know spanish at all, so I have been their translator and I am amazed how much the Lord has blessed me with Spanish. That I can communicate to the members and then to them it is awesome. I know that if I dont think about myself and think about others The lord blesses us.
I love you all so much!! I miss you all! Keep praying for me!!! Pray for the cute little family!! I know this Church is True I know and testify that Christ lives and he loves us so perfectly!!! Thanks for all your love and support I feel it everyday!! Thank you Casey for your letters! Keep doing that. It helps me so much!
Thank you all for supporting and Loving me!
Love always and forever!!
