Querida Familia!!
Hola Como Le Va!?
How is everyone doing!?! I hope and pray that your New Years was so special!! I hope you had a fun time bringing in this New Year! I know that this New Year will be awesome!! I love this time of year because it is a time to set new goals and change the things that we didn’t like in the last year!!
I hope that everyone set and made new goals for themselves!! I can’t believe how fast 2010 was!! It seriously flew by!! I received my call, went through the Temple and left on my Mission! Wow! What a wonderful year but what is most exciting is that I have the opportunity to work hard the rest of this year and then in October I will be home!! Can you believe that? But I need to work so hard to make this year the best ever!!!
So our New Years Eve was just a regular working day but in the night a member invited us over for a nice New Years Eve dinner! Which was really special! Then we went home and like crazy party animals that we are, we are we were in bed by 10 pm lol!! But in Costa Rica New Year’s is huge! Everyone celebrates it by buying fireworks and they set them off at 12:00 midnight! So we were woken up by fireworks and people banging pots and pans together! LOL! So it was very very hard to sleep!! But it was fun to welcome the new year with all the people in Costa Rica!!
Then on Saturday the first we had a free day, well until 4! So it was nice to rest and relax because we haven’t had a true P-day for about 2 weeks. So we were all really tired and then today we have another P-day as well so it is good to unwind from the holidays and start this new year off right!! I know it will be a great year! A year full of success!!! COME WHAT MAY AND LOVE IT!!!
We found this really awesome guy that we are teaching. His name is Rafael and he came to church with us Sunday. He said he loved it and that he wants to learn more so we are hoping that he will be baptized this month. You can just tell when a person is chosen and prepared! So we are going to work really hard with him. He wants to change his life and he said he felt really wonderful in the church!! So that is wonderful!! So we will see what happens with him and I will keep you updated!!
But we have been working so hard to find new people to teach. It has been hard but I know that out of trails brings success!! And I know more than ever with this change I am learning humility patience and faith! I have never been so tried in my life! But I know that as long as I keep going and keep working hard the Lord will be with us and bless us with success! In the moments that are so hard I know that My Savior is here with me lifting me up! Because some days I don’t know how I got through that day but I always do because he is by my side every step I take, every door I knock! I love Him so much and I want to be like Him in every way. And with hard work, dedication and obedience I can!
I love this Gospel!!! I had the opportunity to bear my testimony the first Sunday of this new year and it was very special! I wanted to start the new year off right and it was special to share my testimony to the new branch that I am in!!
We moved to our new house. It is so much better than our old one!! It doesn’t smell and there are no rats so that is always a plus!! LOL!!! But we don’t have a hot water heater and the water is freezing! Seriously like ice!! But the one good thing is, it sure wakes me up in the morning! But luckily the owners of the house who are members are going to put in a water heater for us!! So I am so excited because I am not sure how much longer my poor little body can take of the ice water !!! LOL!!!!!
I love you all so much! Thank you for your email this week I needed them more than you know and they were exactly what I need to hear!! You are the best! I am so blessed to have a family like you!! Thank you for you prayers. I can feel them everyday!! I love you and I hope you all know how very special each and everyone is to me!!
I love this Gospel and I love being a missionary!! It is hard but I wouldn’t change it for anything!! I can’t believe that on the 5th I will have 9 months left! Well that is, if I go home in October! That will go by so fast because the last nine months were so fast so I need to make every moment count!!
I love you all so so so much!!!!
Love always and forever Hermana Turnbaugh

Oh my wonderful Familia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was so good to hear your voices!!! It truly made my Christmas so special!!! It sounds like everything is going good and everyone is happy and healthy! I am so glad that I got to talk to Laren on the phone too that was special but I wish that I could have said hi to Lind’s too, but I will hopefully on Mothers Day!!
Seriously mom don’t apologize that you cried because I did too!! I promised myself I wouldn’t but I did! but oh well, it felt good!!!
But it was so good to talk to everyone and I wish it was longer as well!! But the good thing was that I wasn’t to home sick, because right after I got off the phone we had to go to a cita so that was good! But just think next Christmas we will all be home together that will be so special too!!
So for this new year my companion and I want to work really hard and have a baptism! She has been here for three months and hasn’t had a baptism. So I want her to have one before changes!! I know we will! We don't have any really fiel investigators but I have faith that God will help us complete our goals!! One thing really important I have learned on my mission is we need to put all our faith and confidence in God because without him we are nothing!! I am learning to put everything in the hands of the Lord and I know that when we do we will have success! So this new year will be the best in my entire mission! I am excited to make goals and complete them! Because I only have 9 more months left and I need to work the hardest I ever have in my whole life!! So I am glad that I have this opportunity to have a fresh new year! Change the things I didn’t like last year and become a better person in all aspects!!
Well I love all of you. You are the best family ever!! Thank you for your love and for your support it means more than you know!! I hope and pray that you will have a great new years! We have P~day on Saturday so that will be nice to rest for the new year so we can get up and work hard!! I love you all so so much!!
So how did you like tamales? How were they made? They are good huh? But seriously that made my whole day when you said you ate them!! Oh you guys are so cute!! And you had rice and frijoles and banana or platanos? I love platanos they are seriously my favorite!! It is so funny because I will eat platanos like bananas and my Latina companions are so embarrassed that I do, because your not suppose to eat them like a banana but oh well I like them!! So I am so glad you like the food! I hope that after my mission we can come back and you can try real Costa Rican food! It is good! But I am now kind of like Laren. They eat tomatoes down here at every meal and guess what? I eat them! They wouldn’t be my first pick to eat but I will eat them and I actually kind of like them! LOL!! Wow I am growing up huh?!? LOL!!!
Well My familia I love you! Thanks for all you do for me. Thanks for your love and prayers for me. I can feel your love for me everyday!! I love this gospel and I am thankful that I can share this gospel to everyone and share this message with other families, that they might have this love that we have in our family!!
I know it is true with every fiber of my being!!!
Love always and forever

Another Transfer
Oh My Most Wonderful Familia!!!
How is everyone doing!?! Thank you for your wonderful emails this week! They were such a blessing in my life!!! Thank you so so much Dad for writing me. I thought I wouldn’t get a Christmas letter this year, so when I read your letter, I cried because I think that is what I wanted most this Christmas year so thank you! Your letters mean more than you know!!
So guess what I had ...........CHANGES!!!! I am now in an area called San Isidro Perez Zeledon. It is south of San Jose. Really close to Panama! It is hot and it looks like how, before my mission, I pictured Costa Rica to look like!! It is pretty!
But I am senior companion and my companion is new. She only has two months here but she is Latina ,so hopefully we both will be OK! I want to be a good missionary so I am excited for this opportunity to be senior companion even though there it is not to much of a change but anyways!! So hopefully it will be a good area!
But I do miss El Jardin. The ward there was awesome and the members too!! But I know I will like it here. I just have to get used to it! But I will tell you more when I talk to you on Saturday whoop whoop!!! I am so so excited!!!!! It will be so wonderful to talk to you all!!! So you will call me 3 your time right? So it will be 4 my time ok? That will be perfect then! Ok so my number has changed! So I will be waiting so very patiently by the phone for you to call me at 3 your time 4 mine! And we only get to talk 45 mins. So not like 2 hours when we could talk to Casey! So that will be hard because 45 mins will pass so quickly but it will be ok the Lord knows best!!
So my companion is from Honduras. She is 21! It has been hard because she only knows her trainer and I think she wants me to be like her, but I am not her. But I think it will be better after this week! It is funny that we pass through one challenge and on to the next! And every challenge is so very different but I know that God has a purpose in all things and I can do hard things! But it will be good and this Christmas will be the best in my whole life!! But I will talk to you more about my new area and my new companion on the phone this SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!!!
Know that I love you all and you are all so amazing!! Thank you for your emails and your words of encouragement!! I have Faith in Myself because you have Faith in Me!! Thanks for all you do!! I know it is not by accident we are together as a family!! I know that families are forever and that we all can return to live with our Heavenly Father again!!!! I know this church is true and that through this Gospel we can find a happiness not only for today or tomorrow but we can find a happiness for Eternity!! I love this gospel and I am so thankful I get to share this message with everyone!!
I hope you all have the Best Christmas Eve ever, and I will be thinking of you and I will read the Christmas story at night, when you are reading it too!!
But yes, the mission is doing something nice for us. We have a Christmas lunch this Wednesday with half of the mission and the other half on Thursday. So I am excited for that but Christmas eve and Christmas day are work days so we will be out knocking doors and visiting members!! So it will be fun to work on Christmas Day!!! Maybe we can go around and sing Christmas carols to our investigators!!
Well! I love you all! Thanks for all your love and yes mom I got your packages. You are so so sweet thanks you so much!! You are the best to think of me and send me packages!! Because I know it is not cheap, so thank you for all three packages!!!
I love you all more than words can say!!!
Love always and forever

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!

12/13/2010
Oh my Hermosa Familia!!! I am so blessed to have all of you in my life!! I am so glad that everyone is healthy and happy!! What a wonderful time of year this is to think more on our Saviors Birth! This time is about Him! Yes, Santa Claus is fun and presents are great, but the True Reason is our Savior!
I know it will be hard not to be there with you all but I know why I am here! To tell of the Good Tidings and Great Joy that Christ can and does bring!! So I am going to look at this Christmas as the best Christmas that I will ever have, because I will not be able to get this back ever!! And I am glad I can spend one Christmas as a Missionary!! If you think about it, it is very special!
So I have some information about how it will work on Christmas Day! I think now you are an hour behind us, here in Costa Rica, right? Ok! so what the rules are in the mission is……………………………….................. So make sure you call that number ok!!!
But as for me I am doing good!! This week was tough! Pretty much all our citas this week fell through so it was so so so hard but its ok what goes down must come up!? So hopefully this week will be better than the last. A lot of people here say December is so hard to have citas, because everyone is with family and out of their houses and having parties. But I know that the Lord will bless us and all will be ok!!
I am learning so much in my mission and that is to have Faith!! Faith in my Savior and put my entire life in his hands. At times I think I can do it all by myself, but I can’t! I am nothing without my Savior and His direction. I am learning to have more Faith in Him. I never thought it would be so hard but I think that is why we are here is to learn to have more Faith and to realize in this life we are here by Faith! I am glad for this time of hardship in my mission because I am learning at times I don’t like the person who I am when I am facing something hard. But I am trying to better myself and learn to have Faith and Hope in all things!! I do feel as if I am going through the refiners fire and at times it hurts but it is what I need. It hurts to be stripped of your selfishness! Selfishness is horrible and when we are selfish we are nothing. I am glad that I am with a companion that she is teaching me this principle of putting others first and their feelings. I am far far from perfect but I know the things I need to change to be a more loving person!
But here it is so so cold I have to wear a jacket all day! I thought Costa Rica was really hot! nope! LOL! It is cold, well it is hot in certain places, but in San Jose it is cold!
So yes my area is very much the city. We are outside of San José about 20 mins so it is very city like! There is nothing but houses in my area! But I do like it. The members are great and my Bishop is awesome!! And yes the elders that are my liders are awesome!! We get along really well!! Combios are this Friday. I don’t know if I have changes or not. I don’t think I do but my companion feels like she will. So we don’t know. I will probably know tomorrow!
So guess what a recent convert, not of mine, but in San Carlos got her mission call to Peru and she went through the Temple Saturday. I wanted to go so bad, so my zone liders said I could go but they said it is your decision and what is best for the work and your investigators? So I felt bad and I didn’t go but all day Saturday, all I mean all, our citas fell through! So I felt so bad that I missed the temple trip to go with her, her first time. And I am wondering what was the lesson I needed to learn from this experience because I thought I was doing the right thing by not going and working and trying to get our investigators to church but then all my citas fell and I didn’t teach a single lesson that day! It was horrible! But I know that all things happen for a reason? and I need to have a stronger perspective not just in the here and now but in the long run as well!
But I love living with 2 other sisters. It makes it not so boring and it is awesome to have more people to talk to!! So I am loving it! It is truly a blessing in my life right now!!!
Well, I love you all! I am not sure when I am able to write again so I might not until the 23rd because I think that is p day but I am not sure but if not I will be talking to you all on the 25th whoop whoop!! I am so so so excited!!!!!
I love you all!!
Love always and forever

Dear Familia,
I am so sorry for not telling you what happened to me the other weekend!! But I have a strong testimony that everything happens for a reason and those boys needed to hear they were loved and that they can change through this Gospel. But I am fine and this area is safe, we just need to be a little more careful!
So I am sorry... but how is everyone this week!! I hope everyone is happy and safe!! Did you all hear the First Presidency message for Christmas? It was so good!!! We went to our stake building and we had a cute Christmas program in the beginning which all the barrios in our Stake sang 2 Christmas songs and then we ate tamales ( tamales are a Christmas tradition here, it is like our ham!) And then we watched the first Presidents Message! It was fun! My companion and I sang in our ward choir and then all the missionaries in our zone sang too. It was very special, we sang Oh Holy Night and Cantan Santos Angels! I can’t remember what it is called in English!! Oh no I am losing my mind lol!!! So it was special to start of the Christmas season!! I know this will be one of the best Christmas’s of my life!! Because this will be the only Christmas I will have as a missionary so I need to make it the best!!!!
But I don’t know what time I can call. I will try to call in the afternoon! Like around 1 or 2 so that everyone can be there!! But I will first call you and then you can call me back! But it will be Christmas Day that I can call! So like 3 more weeks!!! Let the count down begin!!! LOL!!!
Yes we had our baptism!!! Whoop Whoop, and it was so special! The wedding before and the baptism!! That family is so special to me because I can see them being able to be together for eternity and I am gaining such a strong testimony in forever families and I know that is what this gospel is all about! Families and returning, with them, to our loving Heavenly Father!!!
I just want to cry because I love my Savior so much! I love that I get to share this message with everyone!! This mission is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I know the Savior lives! I have had the amazing opportunity to read Jesus the Christ and that book is so special to me!! I love it! And I love that I have visited the places where my Savior walked! I am so blessed to have seen those very holy sacred sights!! I know my Savior lived a perfect life and his life was love!! He is my best friend! I never thought I could love Him anymore than I already did but I love Him more and more everyday!! He is my best friend and he is there for me when I feel like am just so alone. He is there and He loves me!! I love him with every fiber of my being!! I can’t express how much he has changed my life!! I am so blessed, so so so truly blessed, to be serving a mission. Even though it is so hard and at times I don’t know for sure if I can last 10 more months but I then realize, this is not about me! This is about Gods children and they need this gospel. They need to know that is it only through Christ that we can be healed. I am so thankful for this Season and that we can remember the Saviors birth.. I can remember a year ago, this season, where I sat in the field where the angles came and testified the Savior of the world had be born! That night changed the world! How very blessed I am that my Heavenly Father would have sent His son to be born and die for everyone here and who has ever lived on this earth! I hope that this Christmas Season that us, as a family, remember this sacred time of the year. The time that our Savior was born!! I love you all and I am so thankful for you!!
Brynnie, how very special on the 10th baby Tru will be born!! He will be very special to our family! I know everything will be fine with you and him because angels are watching over you and he will be healthy and happy!
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY KISSCAL DEAR! HAPPY DAYS WILL COME TO YOU ALL YEAR!! Oh my beautiful sister!!! Happy birthday day tomorrow!! I love you so so much Kiss!! You are the best sister in the world!! I can’t express how much I admire you and how I want to be like you! You are a very special person and I know it is not by accident that you are my sister! You are such a great and loving mom!! I want to be like you in every way!! I hope you have the best day ever!! Because Next year we will celebrate your birthday together!! I love you itter!!

Kaylie's Experiance
So Casey I have to tell you this story but you cant tell mom she will freak out. I alluded to it in my email to her but defiantly didn’t tell details but I have to tell you what happened before I pop!!
So this Thursday about 8: 40pm my companion and I were walking home from our cita and as we were walking I saw two young guys about 17 years old on bikes they noticed us and I could tell they were talking about us! And then we turned the corner as well and they were following us. We were against the back side of a house and they cornered us up against the wall they said give us your bags and your cell phones. I was trying to play a dumb gringa and I keep saying que? and they asked again and again. I said que? and then he started to get mad a little and he reached into his pocket and said Te queres ir conmigo!! I said QUE? Then the other said do you speak English in English? And I don’t know it was weird but I had a peace come over my whole body Casey and I started to talk to them as if they were my best friends. I said you speak English? That is so awesome! Good for you and I asked them where they learned it and after I showed this love to them they changed! And I said, I can teach you a little and then I said my name is Hermana Turnbaugh and I am a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. But all in spanish and then they said wait you both are missionaries and I said yes and they said so you have bibles in your pack backs? Then I said yes and I also have another book that is very special to me and I pulled out the libro de Mormon and I testified of it! And I said I want to give this to you two and I said you are both very special to our Heavenly Father and maybe you two like to ride on your bikes and scare people but I know that you are different and this Gospel can change your lives for the better.
I kept testifying and in the meantime my companion has been behind me the whole time shaking with fear and I pulled her to my side and said everything is ok! And they apologize and said we comete errores and I said it is fine because all of us are not perfect but through Jesus Christ we can be! It was awesome Casey but the funny part of it all was they said seriously out here is dangerous and you shouldn’t be walking at night alone. In my head I was just laughing. Yeah, thanks for telling us when you wanted to rob us earlier! But they turned out to be good guys, they are just lost. But I said you are my friends now and that means a lot so that means I have your back and you have mine! And they said of course, that they will be watching out for us. They said they wanted to come to church but they didn’t this Sunday but no matter what happens with them it is a great story to tell my grandkids. You can share this with mom if you think it won’t freak her out! Maybe just leave out the part when they said they wanted to take away my life if I didn’t give them my bags!
But it was a cool teaching moment and in my heart I knew I was going to be ok! And I told them, I know God put you two in my path tonight because he wants you to know that he loves you!!
It was awesome because I was totally speaking all in Spanish whoop whoop!!
Well I love you case!!! Love you little Hermana

Hola Familia!!!
Como Le va!?! How is everyone doing? How was everyone’s Thanksgiving? I hope it went so well and you had a very special day to remember how much we are truly blessed!!
I hope You make it home safely Mom and Dad and Laren and Lindsey to Florida as well!!! So all of the familia is doing good!! Tell Adam and Hayley thanks for writing me. I miss them tons but next Thanksgiving we will all be together again!
So as for me this week has been better. Slowly but surely I am getting better! I still get tired and my throats aches still, but I am starting to get better so that is such a blessing.
This week was a week of great teaching lessons for me. I learned a lot this week. I had a very unusual experience! Kind of scary but it was a blessing in disguise but this story is defiantly better to tell my family after the Mission!! So remind me k? Because it was really cool after the fact! LOL!!......
But guess what? I had Thanksgiving dinner!! Our stake president asked all the missionaries in our zone to come over for Thanksgiving dinner because he knew how special it is for us gringo’s. So we had turkey, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. It was very fun! Oh it was so funny, a Latino from Honduras said when the wife brought out the turkey, “holy cow! that is one big chicken” and we all laughed and said that is not a chicken that is a turkey they are different!! But it was very funny and very special! So probably when I was eating, you all were eating too. So it was as if we were all together!! lol!! But it was special and it was a fun experience. I am very blessed to be in this area!!
Oh and also this week I was able to go on splits with a missionary that has a little more than a year in the mission. She is an awesome missionary. Her name is Hermana Bingham and I learned so much from her. She has no fear and she speaks with everyone, so it was so good to work with her and to learn how to be a better missionary! I really needed it! To go with someone else and learn from them because this change has been hard! So I know that President is very inspired and he knew I needed that diversion for two days! It also made be realize I am a better missionary than I think I am!! SO it was great experience and I am glad I got to work with her and improve my missionary skills!!
We didn’t have the baptism this Saturday but next for sure!! I am so excited for them and I know that Heavenly Father is too!! At church they all came and while they were sitting there, the husband Carlos had his arm around his soon to be wife and their two cute little girls and as I sat there and watched them I realized this is what it is all about! It is families!! Families are the most important unit in our Heavenly Fathers plan! And through this gospel they can have a happiness and love that will never die!!! It was a special moment for me. I could see this family all in white and I could see them making sacred covenants, not only for this life, but for Eternities!! Families are the key! Families are such a marvelous gift we have been given from our Heavenly Father!!
So guess what? We are having two other sets of missionaries going to live with us and they are actually going to come today! I don't know why President is moving them maybe they had problems in there old area and he had to emergence change them! So we will see what is up when they get here today. But I feel like it will be a blessing!! So I am excited for that, they are not in our ward, but in the area next to ours so they will be working with another ward too!
But I love you all so much! Thanks for all your words of love and encouragement. Can you believe that on Sunday I will have 7 months in my Mission holy cow time flies huh?!?
Well next week are cambios, so I am not 100 percent sure if I will be able to write on Monday, so if not don’t be worried. I am here and safe and I testify more than ever that I have angels watching over me and I will be safe in this area!!
I love you ALL more than I can possibly say! You are all the best!!! Thanks for everything!!
Love always and forever Hermana Turnbaugh
